Meta has announced it would block advertisers from targeting adverts at teenagers based on their gender from February, allowing them to only use age and location.
The company also said previous activity of youngsters on their platforms would not inform the adverts that they see because “teens aren’t necessarily as equipped as adults to make decisions about how their online data is used for advertising.”
The change comes after last week’s $413 million fine over their advertising practices from European regulators, which also rejected Meta’s legal basis to justify data collection for targeted ads.
